Cherkizovo Group, Russia's largest vertically integrated meat producer, revealed in its operating results for November 2018 increases in pork sales as well as production. During November 2018, Cherkizovo produced 23.71 thousand tonnes of pork compared to 21.07 thousand tonnes during the same month last year, revealing a 13 percent rise. A nine percent rise was also noted compared to the previous month, in which 21.69 thousand tonnes of pig meat was produced. A 15 percent rise in sales has also been noted during November, wherein 22.97 thousand tonnes of pork was sold compared to 19.96 thousand tonnes in November 2017. Russia imposed financial sanctions on Ukraine's political elite on Thursday, freezing the Russian assets of hundreds of politicians and officials along with dozens of businesses owned by Ukrainian businessmen/ The sanctions were set out in a decree signed by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and were described as counter-sanctions drawn up in response to similar Ukrainian measures against Russian citizens and companies. Current pig Price is 114 Roubles per kg $1.81 (with VAT) per kg live-weight. As has been the case for the past years pig production in Russia remains very profitable for the good an efficient farmers. New farms continue to be built and domestic production continues to decrease meaning a net increase in production. Of course there are old and inefficient farms that are losing money! Like everywhere else in the world, those farms that do not invest in up to date facilities and the very best genetics have high costs and go bankrupt. The turmoil at Brazilian poultry giant BRF SA intensified after it became the target of a new phase of the food-safety probe that threw the country’s meat industry into disarray last year, Bloomberg reports.
