Dr Andrii Zhuk, First Deputy Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer production, has reported an outbreak of African swine fever at a farm in Poltava. The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reports that the outbreak was first noticed on 31 August and confirmed on 1 September after apolymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was carried out at theState Scientific and Research Institute on Laboratory Diagnosis and Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise. The Sanitary-Veterinary Authority from Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) announced this Wednesday that starting 2 August, it introduced temporary restrictions regarding live pigs and pork imports from Romania, after the discovery of a virus, according to Itar-TASS. According toBusiness Review,Rosselkhoznadzor says that the products which have these restrictions and will arrive to the Russian border after 2 August will be sent back no matter the date written on the veterinary documents that come with the products. Fresh/frozen US pork has been added to the eligible products list for Uzbekistan, with an effective date of 1 January 2017. The Uzbekistanmarket had been closed to US pork since 2014, when the country suspended imports in response to findings of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDv) in the United States.
