For the third month in a row, EU pork exports were up on a year earlier in August, increasing by 10 per cent to 142,000 tonnes. This was almost entirely due to the strength of the Chinese market, with shipments more than doubling compared with August 2014. This is the third month in a row when sales of EU pork to China have reached new heights. At 47,900 tonnes, shipments were more than 5,000 tonnes up on the previous record set only a month before. Brazilian exports of pork between January and August this year totalled 340,800 tons. The number, according to surveys of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) is 4.4 per cent higher than in the same period of 2014, when 326,500 tons were shipped. With this performance, Brazilian pork exporters obtained revenues of $826.6 million, 16.6 per cent lower than the number recorded in the same comparative period last year. "The accumulated surplus for the year was driven by the strong pace of shipments made in August. Russia’s leading integrated meat and finished feed producer Cherkizovo Group has reported a decline in its pork sales volume following an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF).The pork division sales volume in the first half of 2015 decreased by nine per cent to 74 379 tonnes of live weight from 81 318 tonnes in the first half of 2014. The decrease was due mostly to the quarantine closure of two finishing facilities after the ASF outbreak in late December 2014. The outbreaks affected two ofCherkizovo's sites.
