Iowa welcomes World Pork Expo

The annual World Pork Expo, held in Des Moines, IA, United States, shall kick off on Wednesday, June 8, welcoming more than 20,000 pork producers and agricultural professionals from Northern America and the rest of the world. Theevent, held June 8-10 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, is presented by theNational Pork Producers Council(NPPC). The event likes to brand itself as 'the world's largest pork-specific trade show', offering educational seminars, national youth swine shows, open shows and sales, as well as grilled pork and more. The Russian Agriculture Ministry prepares draft Government decree to extend food embargo until the end of 2017. At the same time, the ministry does not propose to expand the list of the products prohibited for import to Russia, Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachev told journalists on Friday. "The Russian Agriculture Ministry has already started to prepare the draft decree providing extension of the response measures until the end of 2017. Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev has signed a law ratifying the free trade agreement (FTA) between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Vietnam, a representative of the presidential press service told Interfax on June 2. “The ratified agreement will ensure a free trade regime for more than 90 percent of commodities,” the official said. “A zero-rate duty and liberalized access to markets will be achieved in two steps.” The agreement prescribes protection of the domestic market and balance of payments, licensing, and subsidizing of industrial and agricultural commodities in accordance with World Trade Organization. Ukraine agricultural holding Avangard previously ranked as the second largest world’s producer of eggs and egg products has seen its production figures almost half as the crisis in the country takes it toll. In 2015 the company produced 4.43 billion units of eggs, a 46% decrease compared to 2014, official reports from the company state. The current European pig crisis is mainly caused by overproduction, and not by the Russian ban on agricultural produce. That is the view of Robert Hoste, pig production economist at theAgricultural Economics Institute(LEI) ofWageningen University and Research, the Netherlands.
