The Center for Industry Expertise of Rosselkhozbank estimates investment opportunities in turkey farming projects at RUB 44 billion. Their implementation could increase the production of turkey meat by 110 thousand tons, hatching eggs by 6 million pieces, the head of the center Oleg Knyazkov told Agroinvestor. He named the growth points of the industry as work on selection and genetics, creation of storage infrastructure, including freezing of products, development of veterinary pharmaceuticals, reengineering of technological equipment for poultry keeping and meat processing.
“The Russian turkey industry demonstrates sustainable production, meeting growing consumer demand and expanding export supplies. Over the past two years, our producers have made a powerful breakthrough and brought our country to second place in the world in terms of turkey production after the United States: we displaced Germany from second position, while we managed to overtake such giants as Poland, Spain and France even earlier,” Knyazkov noted. In his opinion, with each passing year, Russia’s leadership position in this market will only strengthen.
Turkey meat production in the Russian Federation from 2006 to 2023 increased more than 19 times: from 22 thousand tons to 422 thousand tons in slaughter weight. This year, production volume is projected to increase to 440 thousand tons, in 2025 - at the level of 500 thousand tons, according to the Center for Industry Expertise. By the end of 2030, according to calculations by Rosselkhozbank analysts, the industry will approach 700 thousand tons. Turkey consumption from 2012 to 2023 increased 5.3 times, to an average of 2.75 kg per person per year. Moreover, meat consumption in general during this period increased by an average of 1% per year, while in the turkey segment the average annual increase was 25%, analysts compared.
They also noted an increase in turkey exports: from 2015 to 2023, it increased 77 times - from 0.35 thousand tons to 25.6 thousand tons. “Already today, Russian turkey is a leader in the turkey markets of China with a share of 80%, Saudi Arabia with a share of 54%, the UAE - 37%, and in total exports go to 36 countries,” Knyazkov specified. “At the same time, the domestic market remains an absolute priority: for example, last year, external supplies accounted for only 6% of production.”
