The project is based on the disposal of non-hazardous food waste and its processing using an automated insect farm.

A company participating in the FoodNet market (Foodnet) of the National Technology Initiative "InsectLab" has created an alternative to classic feed additives based on easily digestible protein from insects (insectoprotein). The project is based on the disposal of non-hazardous food waste and its processing using an automated insect farm.

As noted by the director of the company, Matvey Talan, our own unique methods are used to obtain purified fat from black soldier fly larvae and protein-lipid additives. “Automation processes use an artificial intelligence module that helps adjust farm operating conditions on the fly,” he said.

The company’s press service noted that the automated insect farm allows one to minimize physical labor in production through continuous monitoring of insects using artificial intelligence. In turn, artificial intelligence allows you to monitor the content of insects in real time using various sensors, and apply certain actions to serve the insects.

“Currently, we can process up to 4 tons of food waste per month. With our technology in the next stage we can allow up to 30 tons of food waste to be processed per month. We have already received investments and developed the first technical maps, built the third model of the farm and received the first ten orders. We see noticeable demand in the market,” TASS quotes the director of InsectLab.

In the future, it is planned to create mass production to obtain protein supplements from black soldier fly larvae for a wide range of consumers. This additive can be used in the production of animal feed and is a good alternative (with its own advantages) to conservative protein sources, such as fish meal and meat and bone meal.

“Insectoprotein is easily digestible and contains all the essential amino acids, which makes it possible to use it in the future in sports nutrition, in daily food products, and today in animal feed. The protein additive is primarily used in animal feed and, due to its complete amino acid composition, makes it possible to limit the purchase of additional amino acid additives in animal feed; as a result, such an additive will save money for animal feed producers,” concluded the developer.
