Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev and Ambassador of Switzerland to Russia Krystyna Marty Lang discussed the prospects for cooperation in the agricultural sector.
The Minister noted that relations between the countries in the agricultural sector are developing steadily. Agricultural products and foodstuffs turnover grew by 6% to 311 million dollars last year. In the first four months of 2021, mutual supplies have increased by over 20% to 110 million dollars.
"We have great opportunities to develop mutual trade," said Dmitry Patrushev. Thus, shipments of domestic wheat to Switzerland have increased this year. Russia is also interested in growing exports of other grain types, alcoholic beverages, oil and fats, fish, and confectionery products. A Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture, which is currently under a final agreement, will contribute to strengthening cooperation.
Besides, the topics addressed at the meeting included mutual work in veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance and agricultural education and training. Other promising areas of cooperation were also discussed.
