The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has created an open electronic stock exchange for livestock trading. Roman Kostyuk, General Director of the National Union of Beef Producers, told “Veterinary and Life” how this site will function during the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Veterinary Medicine in the Agro-Industrial Complex - 2022” in Novosibirsk.

“Today, any Russian enterprises can exhibit their livestock through certified brokers for all regions of Russia, and our partners abroad will see this and have the opportunity to purchase animals. There is a willingness to work on all types of cattle and horses. Preparations are underway for small cattle,” Roman Kostyuk told ViZh.

The agreement on opening an electronic livestock trading exchange was signed on May 26, 2022 in Bishkek during the Eurasian Forum by representatives of five countries that are members of the Eurasian Meat Union. This union includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Russia.

“Today, one of the main tools for attracting investment and getting a fair price for your livestock is the opportunity to openly offer your product. Therefore, an open electronic livestock exchange was developed, namely B2B (business for business. - Approx. "ViZh"). This is not a direct marketplace, these are certified brokers that provide livestock lots with clear traceability, characteristics, and on this exchange you can buy livestock lots through digital transactions with full control: what is bought, from whom and how. This exchange was supported by the Rosselkhoznadzor, there was support from the Federal Scientific Center for Biological Systems and Agrotechnologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences,” said Roman Kostyuk.

The head of the association explained that the electronic exchange is not directly a livestock market, in fact, it is a register of digital transactions. The interlocutor of "ViZh" added that professional livestock markets are gradually being launched in Russia. For example, installation and construction of a site in the Altai Republic is underway, documentation is being prepared for the opening of a cattle market in the Moscow Region, and negotiations are underway for the Ryazan Region.
