Argentina and Russia discussed meat supply issues

Sergei Dankvert, who is the co-chairman of the Russian-Argentine intergovernmental commission, stressed that business and trade relations between the countries are progressively developing and are characterized by mutual trust and respect.

The export of agricultural products from Argentina in 2021, according to the FCS, as of September 24, in monetary terms, amounted to USD 588.9 million, which is 8.4% higher than in the same period last year (USD 543.2 million). The volume of supplies of crustaceans increased from 3.9 thousand tons to 6.5 thousand tons. The supplies of butter (9.1 thousand tons), cheeses and cottage cheese (8.9 thousand tons), frozen fish (10.6 thousand tons), edible offal (23.3 thousand tons) are at a consistently high level. About 60 thousand tons of citrus fruits and 78.5 thousand tons of apples, pears and quince, 23.5 thousand tons of peanuts were imported to Russia.

At the same time, taking into account the market conditions, reduced demand and measures taken by the Government of Argentina to curb prices for beef, the volume of supplies of cattle meat to Russia has decreased.

Eduardo Zuain praised the level of business cooperation between Russia and Argentina, and expressed hope for the comprehensive development of partnership relations between the countries.

Eduardo Zain asked to consider the possibility of conducting video inspections to certify new companies interested in supplying meat and dairy products to Russia. The ambassador also invited the Rosselkhoznadzor delegation to visit Argentina and hold a face-to-face discussion of topical issues of cooperation between representatives of competent departments. It was noted that the visit can be facilitated by the epidemiological situation in the country - Argentina has achieved significant success in the fight against the new coronavirus infection,  thanks to the supply of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, which is in high demand and trust among Argentines.

In addition, it was emphasized that Argentina is aimed at both increasing the volume of exports to Russia of traditionally supplied goods - meat products, wines and soybeans, and opening new directions of trade. In particular, against the background of the situation with the supply of pet food to Russia, Argentina will consider a promising possibility of sending such products to Russia.
