At the end of 2022, Russia entered the top twenty world leaders in food supplies, and took first place in some categories of goods, noted Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a strategic session on food security.
“By the end of 2022, the Russian Federation entered the top twenty world leaders in export supplies,” said the head of the Cabinet. “For a number of products - wheat, sunflower oil, pollock - we occupy first place,” he added, emphasizing that such indicators were achieved despite external restrictions.
According to the prime minister, domestic entrepreneurs have adjusted to the new conditions and are increasing their presence abroad, including in the markets of Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
“Moreover, the range of Russian products is only increasing,” he noted, noting that this is clearly visible from the indicators of the food security doctrine, updated four years ago. Mikhail Mishustin recalled that it was supplemented with new categories, including vegetables, fruits and seeds of domestic selection. “Control over them is important for the formation of a healthy nutrition system for people and for increasing the sovereignty of the Russian agro-industrial complex as a whole,” he emphasized.
In this regard, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that food security is a very important area that affects the situation in many sectors. “Not only in agriculture, but also in mechanical engineering, food, chemical industries, transport, and trade,” he clarified.
