Cherkizovo Group plans to resume production at the Altaisky Broiler facility in October after the site suffered a fire in July. The facility’s capacity will be ramped up in the future, strengthening its position as one of the Siberian Federal District’s foremost poultry meat producers.
Debris clean-up at Altaisky Broiler had been completed by the start of August, within a month of the fire. Currently, the affected facilities are being restored. The main shop is being roofed, and preparations are underway for the construction of a packaging depot. The facility is slated to be put back on stream in mid-October this year.
The reconstruction of Altaisky Broiler is part of Cherkizovo Group’s previously announced plans to expand poultry production in the region. In accordance with an agreement signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Company is going to invest RUB 2.6 bn ($35 million) in the development of a poultry cluster in the Altai Territory. Altaisky Broiler’s annual capacity is currently over 70,000 tonnes of live-weight meat per year. The plan is to ramp this up to 116,000 tonnes by mid-2023. To that end, Cherkizovo is continuing to build growth sites in the Zonalny District of the Altai Territory.
The expansion of Altaisky Broiler will create more than 200 new jobs. The Company currently employs 1,700 people in the Altai Territory.
Altaisky Broiler is a leading player in the Siberian poultry market. Founded in 2007, it became part of Cherkizovo Group in 2018. The factory produces a wide range of chicken products under the Petelinka and Altaisky Broiler brands. It accounts for 8.5% of Cherkizovo Group’s chicken meat output and about 5% of the Company’s revenue. While preparing to relaunch Altaisky Broiler, Cherkizovo has been replacing the lost volumes by bringing in products from its Central Russia facilities.
