The ban on the export of goods to Russia by the G7 countries, if such a decision is approved, will result in mirror measures from Moscow and the termination of the grain deal, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.
"The idea of the idiots from the G7 about a total ban on the export of goods to our country by default is wonderful because it also implies a counter cessation of imports of goods from our country in the most sensitive categories for the G7. In this case, the grain deal will end for them and much more, in which they need," he wrote on his Telegram channel on Sunday.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that officials from the G7 countries are discussing the possibility of a "complete ban on most exports" to Russia ahead of the G7 summit scheduled for May 19-21 in Hiroshima. The agency noted that the export ban may include some exemptions, which are likely to apply to medicines, agricultural products and food.
A high-ranking EU representative later explained to reporters that the idea "has been circulating for some time" but that it "was not discussed at the G7 ministerial meeting in Japan" and is not in the final document of the G7 ministerial meeting.
