Russia provides for its domestic needs for almost all types of food, and at the same time we maintain a strong export potential. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev during the 12th meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the BRICS countries, which was held under the chairmanship of China. Its key topic was the development of cooperation in the field of agriculture and rural areas, The DairyNews was told in the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

According to Dmitry Patrushev, the common task remains the stable provision of food for the population of the BRICS member countries and the whole world as a whole. Russia is one of the largest producers and exporters of agricultural products. The country is completely open to the development of trade relations.

- Compared to 2013, the supply of agricultural products from Russia more than doubled and last year exceeded $37 billion. Our food is supplied to 160 countries of the world. I would like to note that the trade turnover between Russia and the BRICS countries also generally maintains a positive trend - in 4 months of 2022 it grew by almost 15% and amounted to more than $3 billion, - said Dmitry Patrushev.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture stressed that the development of mutual trade is not only a powerful stimulus for the growth of national agricultural industries, but also provides the BRICS population with a varied, high-quality and healthy diet. At the same time, to maintain food security, it is important to maintain the stability of financial and logistics chains.

Russia pays special attention to solving social problems related to employment, demography, and raising the standard of living of the rural population. This is facilitated by the state program "Integrated Development of Rural Territories", the activities of which have already covered 8 million people. As Dmitry Patrushev noted, over the two years of implementation, the program has confirmed its effectiveness, and our country is ready to share positive experience. Despite the continuation of global processes of urbanization in the world, it is possible to maintain and even increase the share of the rural population in certain territories.

As a result of the event, the participants adopted the Joint Declaration and the Strategy of the BRICS countries in the field of food security.
