Following the results of 9 months of this year, Russian exporters increased supplies of pork, dairy and fish products to foreign markets, but reduced shipments of beef and poultry meat. Evgenia Lazutkina, head of the department for supporting the export of livestock products of Rosselkhoznadzor, spoke about this when speaking at the XXV Russian Agro-Industrial Exhibition “Golden Autumn - 2023”.
Thus, according to FSIS “Argus”, in January – September 2023, pork supplies to foreign markets increased by 7.5% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 118 thousand tons. Supplies of dairy products increased by 4.8%, to 112.6 thousand tons. Exports of fish products increased by 6%, to 1.36 million tons. “The main increase in the supply of fish products was provided by China, which canceled testing of the entire cold chain for coronavirus,” the expert explained.
At the same time, there is a decrease in the supply of beef and poultry meat by 22% and 8%, respectively. “Unfortunately, we don’t think we will catch up with the decline in poultry meat supplies this year. China has introduced restrictions on bird flu. Taking them off is quite difficult. China requires the provision of a large number of materials,” the expert explained.
She expressed the hope that the current export restrictions on this type of product will be lifted much faster than the previously introduced ones, which took about 2.5 years to remove. “Now we expect to remove them much faster. We have already received inquiries regarding avian flu from China. We hope that this time they will be promptly removed,” added Evgenia Lazutkina.
Let us recall that at the end of August, China introduced a ban on poultry supplies from four Russian enterprises. Rosselkhoznadzor requested negotiations with Chinese colleagues to clarify the reasons for the restrictions introduced.
