The Federal Antimonopoly Service has agreed with the largest retail chains that they will provide information on the purchase and shelf prices for a number of products, after which officials will set a range of fair margins for these goods.
Several market participants told the Kommersant newspaper about this. They noted that it is about socially important products, such as meat, fish, milk, eggs, bread and others. Beetroot was also added to this list.
The sources of the newspaper noted that the FAS is acting on behalf of the president, who ordered to provide quarterly reports on these prices.
The experts interviewed by the newspaper did not see anything wrong with monitoring and increasing market transparency, however, the range of margins caused some concerns. The fact is that retail chains are already trying to keep it at a minimum level in relation to socially significant goods. Analysts also noted that the regulation of additional cost could lead to the fact that companies simply refuse to release unprofitable products.
Last week, the FAS conducted a number of inspections in the largest grocery retail chains. The agency suspects them of conspiring to increase prices for socially important products. The results of those checks have not been announced in the service yet.
