Food prices in Russia in May 2023, compared to May 2022, generally show an increase. The AB-Center analyzed the dynamics of 115 products, of which price strengthening is observed for 67 products, a decrease - for 48 products.

At the same time, a significant increase in prices (by 10% and more) is noted only for 3 positions, by 5% and more - for 24 positions.

As for the weakening of prices, the prices of 13 goods fell by 10% or more, by 5% or more - for 23 goods.

Although the price of most commodities (if we look at the list in quantitative terms) has risen in price, it is important to note that prices for key food items have fallen significantly.

Price growth leaders (TOP-20 food products)

According to AB-Center's calculations, the increase in prices for the year mostly affected the following food products: onion (+29.1%), chewing gum (+14.5%), salmon caviar, domestic (+14.0% ), frozen squid (+9.1%), cream ice cream (+9.1%), lamb (except for boneless meat) (+8.0%), bakery products made from premium flour, piece (+7.9% ), fresh herbs (+7.9%), natural canned and pickled vegetables (+7.7%), canned tomato (+7.4%).

Also, the TOP-20 products for which the greatest price strengthening was observed included canned fish in tomato sauce (+7.3%), dry soups in bags (+7.2%), jam, jam and marmalade (+7 .1%), coffee in fast food outlets (+7.1%), frozen whole fish (+7.0%), gingerbread (+6.8%), biscuits (+6.7%), marshmallows and marshmallows (+6.0%), domestic sparkling wine (+5.5%), canned meat (+5.3%).

Price reduction leaders (TOP-20 food products)

Potatoes (-45.7%), table beets (-40.4%), buckwheat groats (-36.9%), carrots (-18.8%), garlic (- 18.5%), apples (-17.1%), granulated sugar (-16.8%), fresh white cabbage (-16.0%), oatmeal and pearl barley (-12.3%), butter sunflower (-11.5%).

Also in the TOP-20 products, in respect of which the greatest weakening of prices was observed, included millet (-10.4%), peas and beans (-10.3%), pears (-10.0%), wheat flour (- 9.2%), nuts (-7.1%), oranges (-6.7%), fresh tomatoes (-6.5%), semolina (-6.3%), frozen berries (-6, 0%), oat flakes "Hercules" (-5.9%).
