According to Maria Novikova, the Director of the Department for Veterinary Medicine of Russian Ministry of Agriculture, as she said in an interview to the lead editor of Veterinary Medicine and Life, Yulia Melano, foreign manufacturers of veterinary drugs continue to market their products in Russia, despite transportation challenges.

 “Foreign manufacturers have confirmed their willingness to work on Russian market. Some transportation challenges are claimed, but they have been successfully overcoming it so far,” said Maria Novikova.

She also noted, that logistics of the veterinary medicines supply chain has been altered. Namely, transit countries and routes are changing. Competent authorities are readying for that, in terms of biosecurity as well.

The head of the department also said that Russia produces 47% of animal health products available on the market. In terms of value, the share of domestic products accounts for 30%, and 70% are foreign-made. But one should keep in mind that foreign products are more expensive, underlined Maria Novikova. “It’s not that 70% of animal products are imported. This is true only in regard to the value of the market. These things should be distinguished, as it’s ampules and vials that are being bought, not monetary units,” she explained.
