Last year, 400 million hatching eggs were delivered to Russia, which is 34% less than a year earlier. Sergey Lakhtyukhov, General Director of the National Union of Poultry Breeders, spoke about this at the International Exhibition of Breeding, Feed, Veterinary Medicine and Technologies for Livestock, Pigs, Poultry and Feed Production AGROS-2023, Veterinary and Life writes.

Russian producers were able to expand the parent flocks of poultry

According to the expert, the top 25 largest poultry enterprises are already fully provided with their own hatching eggs. The head of the union recalled that in December last year there were more than 15 million free hatching eggs on the Russian market. A number of producers were even forced to destroy the unclaimed product, because the cost of a Russian hatching egg reached 17 rubles. apiece, while European countries offered Russian producers a hatching egg already with delivery for 13-15 rubles.

Lakhtyukhov emphasized that it is not economically feasible for poultry enterprises with production volumes of up to 30 thousand tons to create their own loudspeakers. They will continue to purchase hatching eggs from Russian or foreign producers.

The decrease in the import of hatching eggs is not associated with any problems, Lakhtyukhov specified to Agroinvestor. The reason is that Russian producers, thanks to the support measures of the Ministry of Agriculture, were able to expand their parent poultry flocks. The head of the union noted that in 2022 several large projects were implemented to create second-order breeding reproducers. A number of such enterprises will be completed in 2023.

According to Lakhtyukhov, this will make it possible to quickly switch to incubation eggs of our own production, the share of which is now approaching 90%. Now part of its deliveries to Russia fall on Hungary, Slovakia and Turkey. “A number of manufacturers not only provide themselves with hatching eggs, but also sell the goods on the market. This trend will continue, and, in my opinion, during 2023 we will be able to almost completely provide the country with goods of our own production,” he concluded.

The executive director of Rincon Management, Konstantin Korneev, told Agroinvestor that the risks of the industry's dependence on foreign breeding material are decreasing. “There are no difficulties that would now significantly limit the supply of hatching eggs. The main problem is outbreaks of bird flu,” the expert added. According to him, all large poultry enterprises are fully provided with domestic hatching eggs. According to the Rosselkhoznadzor, about 4 billion such eggs are produced in Russia annually.
