Meat consumption in the Russian Federation this year may exceed 80 kg per person, Andrey Dalnov, head of the Center for Industry Expertise of the Russian Agricultural Bank, predicts. At the same time, meat consumption in Russia has been continuously growing since the period when government programs to stimulate the industry began to be implemented.
"Meat consumption is at a record level. The country has never consumed so much - 79 kg per person last year. This year we will exceed 80 kg per capita with almost 100 percent probability and move on," Andrey Dalnov said at the the industry session held by Rosselkhozbank on Wednesday during the implementation of the "School of Business for Small Forms of Management" project.
According to him, the forecast is based on the fact that pig breeders have plans to increase production. “There are turkey breeders who are rapidly developing this market. And there are mutton producers represented by the Resource and Damate companies that are developing this segment,” he said. “I think that they will add 1-2-3 kg (to the volume of consumption ) as soon as they offer their product to the market."
According to Andrei Dalnov, meat imports are gradually decreasing. For pork, for example, last year it was zero. "Poultry meat is mainly supplied to the Kaliningrad region. There are few supplies of beef," he said. - If we talk about exports, then there are opportunities for it, but there is no possibility of a sharp increase. In the Far East, China's prices are low this year. Brazil is present in the Middle East with cheap poultry. Exports are growing, but growing gradually. We are likely to see an increase in price volatility."
