Exports of Russian agricultural products to friendly countries at the end of last year increased by 12 percent from the 2022 level or to $45 billion. As TASS reports, Andrei Kucherov, deputy head of the federal center for the development of agricultural exports (Agroexport, owned by the Ministry of Agriculture), spoke about this at the recent food and beverage exhibition in Russia and Eastern Europe “Prodexpo”.

This is also 3.4 billion more in monetary terms. The expert compared this indicator with the level of Australia and Argentina. Thus, according to him, the share of these countries in the total volume of agricultural exports has already reached 87 percent. Note that similar results have not been observed for several years. At the same time, the list of countries to which Russia supplies its products differs in its economic level, and the growth of supplies does not depend on it. For example, export volumes to Egypt increased by only 13 percent, to Pakistan - by 40, to India - 46, but to China - already 52. The trend in five countries turned out to be more logical - Brazil (1.6 times increase), Kenya (double), Mexico (triple), Tanzania (four times) and Indonesia (six).

The first of the countries generally has a special need for Russian food. For example, as we have repeatedly said, it actively purchases Russian grains both through tenders and from private suppliers due to their high quality in protein content (12.5 percent). Egypt and the above-mentioned states, which have increased purchases severalfold, are experiencing serious food problems due to economic difficulties and policy mistakes. India has a higher level of development, but it still has poor trade policies and high levels of crime in agriculture. China is a developed country, but is interested in purchasing products for the sake of developing its own feed industry. And our country is able to satisfy even their demand. At the same time, Kucherov noted that some of the named countries were previously “outsiders in terms of exports.” He named Brazil, Kenya and Tanzania as examples.

Kucherov noted that today Russian agricultural products are supplied to 150 countries around the world. This represents 79 percent of the total number known today. In particular, the expert recalled that last year 17 countries around the world opened their markets for the supply of 48 types of Russian products. Examples have already been the supply of Russian pork to China, poultry meat to Algeria, fish to Tunisia and dairy products to Hong Kong and Malaysia. Also in the near future, they plan to develop infrastructure and distribution in foreign countries for Russian exporters, as well as intensify the creation of brands for specific export markets and work in the retail sector. China again became an example. In particular, the companies Belevskaya Pastilnaya Manufactory, Komos Group, Russian Fishery Company, Target-Agro and EkoNiva have already opened their representative offices there. Also, some companies have rented warehouses in China and are developing their distribution network there.
