Over 10 years in Russia, the consumption of products from the menu of the countries leading in life expectancy has increased by a third.

The diet of the top ten countries in the world in terms of life expectancy - more than 84.2 years - contains plenty of pork, and there is a correlation between these facts. This opinion was expressed by Andrey Dalnov, chief industry analyst of Rosselkhozbank. The expert said that in Russia since 2014, consumption of this type of meat has increased by 29%, production by 56%, and also shared forecasts for 2024.

Since 2014, pork consumption in Russia has been growing steadily every year, increasing by 29.4% by the beginning of 2024. At the end of 2023, the figure exceeded 30 kg for the first time and may approach 32 kg in 2024, Andrey Dalnov predicts.

“Pork is characterized by optimal levels of amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins and microelements per calorie. Using the example of the top ten countries in the world in terms of life expectancy, we see a clear correlation with the presence of pork in the diet. In Russia, its consumption is growing due to an increase in real incomes of the population and an expansion in supply. I believe that in 2024, in the Russian meat basket, pork will come close to the leader – broiler,” says Andrey Dalnov.

From 2014 to 2023, pork production in Russia increased by 56.2% to 4628.4 thousand tons. Domestic pig farmers fully meet the needs of the domestic market. According to Andrey Dalnov, in 2024 production will increase to almost 5,000 thousand tons.

Surplus products are exported. For 2014-2023 it increased 13.3 times to 223 thousand tons, and in 2024 it could reach 318 thousand tons, including due to the opening of the Chinese market (approximately 60 thousand tons), the analyst adds.
