In January-September 2022, pork consumption in the Russian Federation increased by 226 thousand tons, or 7.8% more than in the same period in 2021. The growth in pork consumption has become the highest among other types of meat, Veterinary and Life reports, citing the head of the National Union of Pig Breeders (NSS) Yuri Kovalev.
In the first nine months of 2022, poultry meat consumption increased by 67.3 thousand tons, or by 1.9% year-on-year. The same indicator for beef in January-September of this year fell by 73.9 thousand tons, which is 6.2% less than in the same period in 2021.
According to the Director General of the NSS, the growth in pork consumption was affected by a decrease in prices for this meat and an increase in prices for beef. The difference in prices for poultry meat and pork has decreased.
