Meat consumption in the Russian Federation this year may exceed 80 kg per person, Andrey Dalnov, head of the Center for Industry Expertise of the Russian Agricultural Bank, predicts.
“Meat consumption is constantly growing in our country, we have been setting records for the last 20 years. This year, probably, it will be 80-80 plus kg per person,” he said at a round table as part of the Russian Retail Week on Tuesday in Moscow. In 2022, consumption amounted to 79 kg with a norm of 73 kg.
According to him, currently broiler dominates in the structure of meat consumption - 40%. Turkey accounts for 4% and its consumption is on the rise. The share of pork is 37%, and the question is whether it will catch up with the level of consumption of broiler meat, Dalnov said, noting that "pork consumption is growing dynamically."
At the same time, he said, beef consumption is stagnating.
Speaking about the consumption of fish, Dalnov noted that the gap between the norm and the actual consumption is "quite large" so far.
This was acknowledged by other participants in the discussion.
According to Alexander Fomin, executive director of the association of industrial and commercial enterprises of the fish market, according to Rosstat, fish consumption last year amounted to 21.5 kg per person. However, he said, "it's a fish in live weight, but it's a fish that's in the water." "According to our calculations, the real consumption was 16 kg," he said.
According to the presentation of the Russian Agricultural Bank, from 2022 the norm of fish consumption is 28 kg. The structure of consumption is dominated by herring species (45%). Cod fish account for 26%, salmon - 10%.
