"We are exporting 650,000 tons of meat this year, and we are importing 530,000 tons today. These are fresh figures. And we are in a surplus of about 100,000 tons of meat. Therefore, we import what we need and export what we can export," he said.

According to Dankvert, Russian meat exporters focus on countries such as Vietnam, China and the United Arab Emirates. Of the 500 thousand tons of imports, according to him, about half of the volume falls on Belarus. "These are not imports, these are deliveries within the framework of the union state," he stressed.

The head of the Rosselkhoznadzor recalled that a few years ago Russia imported 3.5 million tons of meat, including from South America: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay and Ecuador. According to the press service of the department, in 2019 meat imports to Russia amounted to 736.1 thousand tons, exports - 341.8 thousand tons, in 2020 - 596.6 thousand tons and 569.4 thousand tons, respectively , in 2021 - 579.7 thousand tons and 575.1 thousand tons. In the period from January 1 to December 23, 2022, imports amounted to almost 540 thousand tons, exports - 642.3 thousand tons.
