The production of meat of all kinds in the Russian Federation this year is expected to reach 11.7 million tons in carcass weight, which will be a historical record. At the same time, meat imports will be minimal, and exports will reach a maximum, according to the National Meat Association (NMA).Meat production in Russia in 2022 is expected to reach a record level of 11.7 million tons

According to Interfax, the head of the NMA, Sergei Yushin, including the production of pigs will increase to 4.5 million tons, poultry - up to 5.3 million tons in carcass weight. This is also the highest volume in history. "Moreover, the poultry industry has reached a record for the production of turkey - almost 420 thousand tons. The Russian Federation is confidently one of the three world leaders in the production of turkey meat," he said.

Consumption of meat and meat products is expected to reach a record 78 kg per person per year. "This is facilitated by the dynamics of prices for poultry and pork, which account for about 80% in the meat consumption basket," Yushin said.

Thus, wholesale prices for pork sides and main cuts are currently 5-7% lower than a year earlier, and are at the level of 2015 or lower. The wholesale price of a broiler carcass is 2% lower than the wholesale price of the previous year. For the first time in a decade and a half, the difference in prices between chicken and pork has decreased from 50% to 25-30%. "Pork has become more affordable for the part of consumers for whom chicken served as the main source of protein. Large-scale social payments to the population in 2022 also contributed to maintaining a stable volume of meat consumption," the head of the NMA said, specifying that the population's spending on meat and meat products in the consumer basket is about 9%.

According to him, imports of meat and meat products in 2022 will be the lowest over the past 25 years - about 500,000 tons. "A little more than ten years ago, imports reached a total of 3 or more million tons per year," he recalled.

The share of meat imports in the resources of the domestic market will be about 4%, including 0.5% for pork and 3.7% for poultry. In terms of poultry meat and pork, Russia remains a net exporter, he added.

At the same time, the export of meat and meat products (including finished meat products) in value terms is expected to reach a maximum level of $1.5 billion.
