The French pig industry has launched its own pork label to stimulate pork consumption in its own country.

Paul Auffray, chairman of the French federation for pork production (FNP), told Pig Progress' sister title Boerderijthat the new label is embraced by the entire production chain, which includes retailers.

Ensuring clarity about birth place of pigs

For consumers, the label ensures clarity about France having been the place of birth of animals. This way, Auffray emphasised, guarantees are given for food safety and consumers can be sure that it is the domestic economy that will profit.

French consumers are thus invited to eat more French meat. Other initiatives include more publicity, like e.g. pig producers opening up to members of the public on certain days.
