Between 2016 and 2021 exports of agricultural products of the Nizhny Novgorod region were characterized by positive dynamics and in the aggregate increased by 2.3 times. The main increase in exports is due to an increase in shipments of products from the oil and fat industry, the food and processing industries. This is stated in the export profile of the region, prepared by the Federal State Budgetary Institution Agroexport.

At the end of 2021, the export of agro-industrial complex products of the Nizhny Novgorod Region amounted to 335.3 million US dollars (23rd place among the subjects of Russia). The share of the region is 0.9% of the total export of Russian products and 12.79% of the total export of the Volga Federal District.

The study also notes that the largest exporter of agricultural products in the region is NZhMK. Other relatively large exporting companies are represented in various industries: oil and fat (LLC Agroholding Zhemchuzhina Povolzhya), food (JSC Europe Foods GB, etc.), fish (Lunskoye More LLC), dairy and meat industries (LLC poultry farm Pavlovskaya, Dream Factory LLC, etc.), as well as alcoholic beverages (Standard LLC) and tobacco (Premium Tobako LLC).

The export-oriented investment projects implemented in the region are aimed at developing the food, fish, meat and dairy industries. In total, by 2024, it is planned to implement 6 investment projects with a total value of 4.3 billion rubles.
