Last week, October 10-16, wholesale prices for pork continued to decline on the domestic market. It was traced across all product categories, except for brisket and trimming.
According to the report of the National Union of Pig Breeders (NUPB), the average price of live pigs of slaughter condition in the 41st week of 2022 was 119.2 rubles per kilogram, which is 7.15 rubles less than in the 40th week (-5, eight%). Over the same period, half carcasses fell in price by 7.92 rubles per kilogram, to an average of 170.22 rubles (-4.6%), and pork ham - by 3.09 rubles: to 232.86 rubles (-1.3% ).
According to the industry association, the fall in prices for pork is due to two factors: a decrease in demand and an increase in the supply of pork sides. Their offer, noted last week, has noticeably increased after the commissioning of a new slaughterhouse in the Voronezh and Kursk regions.
At the same time, NUPB experts recorded an increase in carry-over stocks in the pork half carcass segment, because some companies faced a reduction in deboning capacity last week due to a lack of staff and the number of applications from retail chains.
In general, the market moved from the “seller” phase to the “buyer” phase, which accelerated the dynamics of the decline in prices for commercial pigs, a consequence of a strong overheating in the “live” segment. The Union expects the same trends to continue this week.
