The authorities called on the aviation business to join the information campaign in the fight against African swine fever, despite the fact that these animals are rarely transported by air, it follows from the letter of the Rosselkhoznadzor. The appeal is associated with the acceleration of the spread of a fatal disease at Russian meat processing plants, experts say.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 240 outbreaks of African swine fever have been recorded in the Russian Federation. The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) considers negligence of passengers who unwittingly carry it from country to country through contaminated pork products or clothing, as the main route of transmission of this disease. The further spread of the plague by passengers may result in significant fines for the import of pork products and the closure of borders, the OIE warned.
The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) called on airlines and airports to organize information work with passengers on international flights to prevent infectious animal diseases from entering the Russian Federation and to prevent the spread of African swine fever (ASF). This follows from a letter from the deputy head of the supervisory service for Moscow, the Moscow and Tula regions, Vladimir Menyakin, to the heads of airports.
Rosselkhoznadzor also sent out information brochures prepared by the OIE on the prevention of the spread of ASF to airlines and airports for educational work.
As of November 1, since the beginning of the year, 242 ASF foci have been identified in the Russian Federation, of which 67% are among domestic animals, the information and analytical center of the Rosselkhoznadzor said about the epidemiological situation in the country. The largest number of outbreaks was recorded in the Amur Region - 47, Yaroslavl - 26, Khabarovsk and Primorsky Territories - 22 each.
