In January-September 2022, the total volume of the meat market in Russia reached 7 million 395 thousand tons. Of these, 3 million 446 thousand tons are poultry meat, the second place is occupied by pork (2 million 734 thousand tons)
In January-September, the total volume of the pork market in Russia reached 2 million 734 thousand tons in slaughter weight, which is 10% or 249 thousand tons more than in the same period of 2021. (Hereinafter - taking into account domestic production in agricultural organizations, with the exception of exports, including data on trade with non-CIS countries and the Republic of Belarus).
The country maintains a high level of self-sufficiency in pork - in the period under review, the share of imported products in the Russian domestic market is only 0.6%. The volume of production of this type of meat is growing every year, largely due to the increase in the industrial segment. So, for the three quarters of 2022, pork production in agricultural organizations increased by 7.9%, while in household plots and peasant farms it fell by 10.8% and 12.2%, respectively.
A similar picture is observed in the Russian poultry market. Its total volume in January-September amounted to 3 million 446 thousand tons in carcass weight, which is 3% or 96 thousand tons higher than in January-September last year.
The share of imported products in the domestic market of our country amounted to about 3.5%, while a year ago this figure was higher (4.9%). Almost the entire volume of poultry meat is provided by agricultural organizations (94%), in January-September 2022, output increased by another 5%.
If we talk about the beef market, then according to the results of 3 quarters, a decrease in indicators is recorded: the total volume is 1 million 109 thousand tons in slaughter weight, which is 6.4%, or 76 thousand tons less than in the same period last of the year. However, there is a positive trend towards a reduction in the share of imported beef in the Russian domestic market (16% versus 19% in January-September 2021).
In January-September, beef production decreased in all types of farms, but in peasant farms - still slightly, by 0.5% (for comparison: production in agricultural organizations fell by 4.3%, in household farms - by 3.9%).
The total volume of the mutton market in the period under review amounted to 106 thousand tons in slaughter weight, which is 1.7% or 1.9 thousand tons lower than in January-September 2021. Almost the entire volume is provided by domestic farms, the share of imported products in the domestic market is only 0.2%.
And although agricultural organizations still produce only 8.5% of lamb and goat meat, the industrial production segment shows a positive trend (+3.5%, up to 9 thousand tons).
According to preliminary estimates, the total volume of the meat market in Russia in January-September 2022 amounted to 7 million 395 thousand tons (its main types are pork, poultry, beef, lamb and goat meat).
