The volume of pork meat exports from Russia in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 32% compared to the same period in 2022 and amounted to 46.8 thousand tons. This is stated in the presentation of the Director General of the National Union of Pig Breeders Yuri Kovalev.

According to the materials of the union, exports from Russia to Belarus in the first quarter increased by 18%, to 16.6 thousand tons, to Vietnam - by 2.3 times, to 18.8 thousand tons, to Hong Kong - by 2.4 times , up to 1.6 thousand tons. Pork supplies to Mongolia increased by 44% and amounted to 1.4 thousand tons, exports to Kazakhstan decreased by 30%, to 1.4 thousand tons.

“Exports have begun to recover, which, of course, eases our situation with a glut of the market. Belarus continues to grow and this suggests that this is already a serious direction,” Kovalev said, speaking at the Compound Feed 2023 conference.

About pork production

According to his data, the growth of pork production continues in the first quarter. The volume of its production increased by 5.6% and amounted to 1.42 million tons. At the same time, production in agricultural enterprises increased by 7.1%, to 1.32 million tons, in farms it decreased by 12.8%, to 6.1 thousand tons, in personal subsidiary plots - by 11.1%, to 93.8 thousand tons.

As Kovalev noted, in the first quarter of 2023, prices for live pigs in Russia decreased by 7.5% compared to the same period last year. The fall was 6% last year. According to the expert, it is the reduction in prices that contributes to the growth in the consumption of this meat.
