According to the results of the first quarter of 2022, there is a significant increase in the export of poultry and beef from Russia and a decrease in the supply of pork and lamb. This was announced by the General Director of the National Union of Pig Breeders Yuri Kovalev at the XVI International Conference "Safe and high-quality compound feed as a guarantee of the effective development of livestock industries" ("Compound Feed - 2022").
Thus, according to the results of the first three months of this year, 46% more poultry meat and 74% more beef were exported from Russia compared to the supply volumes in January-March 2021.
Pork exports continue to decline from the second half of 2021. According to the results of January-March 2022, it fell by 42%, Yuri Kovalev noted.
“As we expected, at the beginning of 2022, the decline in pork exports from the Russian Federation continues. The main reason is the recovery of production in Vietnam and China. Prices have collapsed. Our prices have remained high. Naturally, private business reoriented itself and left its products on the domestic market,” he said.
Among other reasons that influenced the decline in exports, the expert also names logistical problems that arose during the coronavirus pandemic and intensified in April this year.
Exports of mutton for the first three months decreased by 13% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, by increasing the export of poultry and beef from the Russian Federation, it was possible to compensate for the decrease in the supply of pork and lamb, the expert added. “Poultry and beef have become drivers of growth in the total volume of meat exports from the country, which increased by 9% and amounted to 122.1 thousand tons,” Yury Kovalev summed up.
