According to the average forecast, the production of almost all types of agricultural products will decline in Ukraine in 2022, due to lack of fuel, crop protection products, fertilizers, and sometimes seeds, stated the Deputy Director at the National scientific center “Institute of Agrarian Economics”, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS), Mykola Pugachev.
“In 2022, in Mykolaiv oblast, production of grains and pulses will total 41% of the last year’s volume, wheat – 40%, sunflower seed – 34%. In Kherson oblast, production of grains and pulses will total 49% of the last year’s volume, wheat – 4470%, sunflower seed – 46%”, – he said.
In central and western regions, the situation is much better. The production of grains and pulses could decrease by 18-25% y/y in 2022, sunflower seed – by 15-22%, meat – by 8-18% and milk – by 6-18%.
“Spring planting campaign is underway. Today, less than 20% of the planned area is planted. Now, it is really difficult to understand the real structure of plantings. Farmers are shifting to crops that are easier to cultivate – barley, oats, peas, millet, sorghum, pulses and other niche crops”, – M. Pugachev.
