The production of meat and bone meal in Russia over 4 years increased by 87% and in 2022 amounted to 637.7 thousand tons. In January-June 2023, production volume increased by 8%, compared to the same period in 2022, amounting to 336.7 thousand tons Such data are provided in a study by the analytical agency FEEDLOT.
The main companies producing meat and bone meal are enterprises of the Central Federal District, which at the end of last year provided 50% of the total production volume, or 319.8 thousand tons. The second place in the ranking was taken by the Volga Federal District, which accounted for 26%, or 168.7 thousand tons. Based on the results of January-June 2023, in the Central Federal District, the increase in production was 11%, or by 17 thousand tons.
Over the past 4 years, domestic producers of meat and bone meal have significantly increased production volumes - almost 2 times, developing a portfolio of products that includes meat and bone meal, largely to meet the demand in the domestic market (feed for agricultural animals, as well as production of products for pets), reducing import dependence by 9%.
The production capacity of meat and bone meal is growing due to the annual increase in the number of farm animals and the end consumer's demand for meat. The petfood direction is also developing in our country, new brands and manufacturers of food for pets (cats and dogs) are appearing. Exports of Russian production abroad to countries such as Vietnam and Kazakhstan are gradually increasing. The volume of exported products is about 1% of the production of meat and bone meal in Russia.
