Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a working trip to the Stavropol Territory, discussed with representatives of the agro-industrial complex the most important issues in the development of the Russian agro-industrial complex. This was reported by the Kremlin press service.
The head of state once again highlighted the successes in the country’s agricultural sector over the past year. For example, he noted that income from agricultural exports has increased 20 times since the beginning of the 2000s - to $43.5 billion. Putin also recalled that a record grain harvest was harvested in 2022 (157 million tons), and in the past it was close to it at 147 million. Our country has never collected so much before in the post-Soviet years. Among other achievements, he named the fourth place in the world in meat production. Let us recall that earlier it was also repeatedly said that exports exceed imports for grains, meat and fish products, sunflower oil and some other agricultural products. The head of state also noted that, despite geopolitical and other trade restrictions, Russian agricultural products are already supplied to 150 countries. An important role in this, according to him, was played not only by volumes, but also by the quality of products.
The head of state also spoke about problems in the industry and measures to support it. In particular, our country is dependent on foreign selection for a number of key crops. Let us remember that these include, in particular, corn, sunflower, sugar beets, potatoes and some others. The share of imported seeds for them ranges from 50 to more than 90 percent. In this regard, Putin proposed to develop a solution on how many seeds should be imported so that the harvest does not decrease. Previously, he supported the proposal to create a grain exchange within the BRICS framework. The head of state also instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to keep control of the situation with diesel fuel for farmers and to work on expanding preferential lending to farmers in new Russian regions. He noted that “there are and will be attempts to strangle Russia’s export potential,” but despite this, support for the Russian agricultural sector will continue.
The head of state also visited one of the largest enterprises in the region and in Europe, the Solnechny Dar greenhouse complex of the ECO-Culture agro-industrial holding, and talked with employees of the enterprise. He praised the work of the employees and the quality of the products. In addition, via video link, he took part in the opening of a plant for the production of water-soluble fertilizers of the Phosagro company in the Leningrad region, deep processing of oilseeds in the Belgorod region, primary and subsequent processing of meat products in Mordovia.
