Between Russia and China it is planned to launch a new logistics service RailJet, this is a baggage train, the Russian Export Center (REC) reports following a meeting in Beijing. Also discussed at the meeting was the issue of speeding up the clearance of perishable goods through the Agroexpress service.

The imminent launch of the new logistics service RailJet, the so-called “baggage train” between Russia and China, was announced by the General Director of the Russian Export Center (part of VEB.RF) Veronika Nikishina following a meeting of the Subcommittee on Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Russian-Chinese Commission. The event took place in Beijing on September 19.

According to Veronika Nikishina, RailJet will be able to operate at least twice a week, and the delivery period will be 5 days due to the use of passenger schedule lines. It will provide Russian companies with the delivery of postal items, small shipments, high-tech and valuable cargo. The service operators will be FESCO and JSC Russian Railways Logistics.

“The main issues that were discussed in our part were expanding the opportunities for Russian exports through e-commerce channels and developing transport networks between our countries,” the words of the general director are quoted in the release of the Russian Export Center.

She noted that Russian companies have not yet fully exploited the capabilities of Chinese trading platforms, but these e-commerce channels have great potential, and this sector is especially promising for domestic small and medium-sized businesses.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, in 2023 there will be a significant increase in bilateral trade turnover between Russia and China. In 8 months of 2023, trade volume reached $142 billion. Last year, trade turnover increased by 31%, exceeding $185 billion. “With such dynamics, the target for increasing bilateral trade in goods and services to $200 billion, set by the leaders of the Russian Federation and China by 2024, can be achieved ahead of schedule this year.” “, said Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov during a meeting of the Russian-Chinese subcommittee on trade and economic cooperation, which took place as part of the business program of the working visit of the Russian delegation to Beijing.

Also at the meeting in Beijing, the issue of speeding up the clearance of perishable goods through the Agroexpress service, which began to actively work after the lifting of covid restrictions, was discussed. “This route is popular among Russian exporters of frozen products. The speed of delivery by Agroexpress by direct rail traffic is no more than 20 days, compared to 45 days if transportation is carried out by sea,” said the General Director of the REC.
