Exports of Russian pork by the end of 2023 may increase by 29.4% compared to last year and amount to about 220 thousand tons. Director General of the National Union of Pig Breeders Yuri Kovalev told reporters about this on the sidelines of the Russian agro-industrial exhibition "Golden Autumn 2023".
“Last year we exported about 170 thousand tons, this year we expect about 220 thousand tons, all this without China,” he said.
Kovalev noted that the situation with African swine fever (ASF) in the Russian Federation currently does not affect exports and is “under absolute control.”
“We have had ASF for 15 years, and during this time a huge amount of work has been done both on the part of the state and on the part of business. On the part of the state, the system of the state veterinary service has been improved, supervision has been returned to the federal level. On the part of business, first of all these investments in the biosecurity system are in order to obtain the highest levels of the so-called compartment, that is, the biological protection of the enterprise,” Kovalev concluded.
