In Russia, there are vaccines against coronavirus infection and other similar most dangerous infectious diseases of cattle. This was reported by Veterinary and Life with reference to the Federal Center for Animal Health (FGBI ARRIAH, owned by Rosselkhoznadzor).

The organization made such a statement against the backdrop of recent news from the online publication Agriland. The publication states that many farms in Ireland are suffering from the disease. The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture of the country, Ronan O'Neill, whose words are quoted by the publication, said that this is a very common disease among local cattle.

The first remedy for coronavirus infection in cattle in the Russian center was developed back in the early 2000s for cows. Judging by what its experts have said about the drug, it works ahead of the curve. According to them, the vaccine promotes the formation of antibodies in the body, which are transmitted with colostrum and provide passive protection to future calves already at the stage of their birth. And under the condition of two vaccinations, immunity to the disease persists for three months. Also, the drug similarly protects animals from rotavirus infection. Another associated vaccine created by specialists is also intended against the above-mentioned disease, as well as infectious rhinotracheitis and parainfluenza-3. She showed even better results. The drug forms immunity to these diseases in livestock within two to three weeks, and immune activity persists with a double vaccination twice as long as with the previous remedy. The list of ARRIAH developments also includes associated vaccines for the prevention of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory pathologies in young animals.

The scientists of the center also spoke about the cattle coronavirus infection itself and its danger to livestock. This is an acute contagious disease that affects the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory organs of animals. The causative agent of this disease is an RNA-containing bovine coronavirus. Experts explained that neither the virus nor the disease itself is in any way connected with the covid known to all of us, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The disease poses a threat to both beef and dairy cattle, reducing the productivity of both by at least 10-20 percent over the average calving period. Also, 8 to 12 percent of heifers either do not produce offspring or give birth to them three months later. The disease is especially dangerous for young animals, the loss of which can reach 60 percent. In newborn calves it causes diarrhea and general emaciation, in older calves it causes bronchitis, rhinitis and pneumonia. Infection can occur by airborne and fecal-oral route. In addition to cows and calves, buffaloes are susceptible to it.
