According to the results of this year, Russia may reduce the production of meat and poultry for the first time in 15 years. According to Rosstat, in January-September, the production of livestock and poultry meat decreased by 0.6%, including poultry meat – by 1.7%.
For comparison, in the first three quarters of last year, the increase in meat volumes amounted to 4%, and by the end of 2020 – by 3.1%, to 15.635 million tons in live weight.
In the meat industry, production costs have seriously increased this year. This is primarily due to the pandemic, then to animal diseases, including outbreaks of avian influenza, and rising world prices. According to the National Meat Association (NMA), pork production in January-October leveled off somewhat. The increase compared to last year is 0.9%.
But even if the entire meat industry reaches the figures of last year, this is a stagnation. And zero duties on imports of beef and pork from January 1, 2022 will not fix the situation. This is just a measure to prevent the situation from getting worse.
