In November 2023, India resumed purchasing pork from Russia after a rather long pause of three and a half years.
According to the Indian Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, in November the country imported 12.41 tons of pork from Russia worth $50 thousand - this is 15% of the total volume of imported pork supplied to India ($330 thousand in monetary terms) for the same month.
India has not purchased Russian pork since May 2020. Then its share was 39% of the total supply volume - 25.67 tons ($90 thousand).
The analytical service of the federal center "Agroexport" under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation calculated that at the end of 2023, Russia shipped a record 255 thousand tons of pork (including by-products) to foreign markets, which is 66% higher than the corresponding figure for 2022. The main importers are Vietnam, Belarus, Serbia, Mongolia and Hong Kong.
