Director General of the National Union of Pork Producers, Yuri Kovalev, predicts Russia will export 250 thousand tons of pork this year.
According to Yuri Kovalev, export is the only opportunity for Russian pork production to develop further. Due to saturation, the domestic market can no longer provide such an opportunity, he noted.
"This year there is a significant increase in exports, unlike last year when we had a decrease of 10-15%. We hope to reach a figure of about 250 thousand tons. This is a very significant figure, about $550 million. This is more than 5% of our production," he said.
Kovalev also said that in 2024 the growth of pork production in the industrial segment in the Russian Federation is expected at the same rate as this year - about 5%.
