On 1 and 2 July, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture's delegation headed by Minister Dmitry Patrushev paid a working visit to the Republic of Serbia.
On the first day in Belgrade, Dmitry Patrushev met with Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Serbia. The parties discussed prospects for the cooperation expansion. Dmitry Patrushev emphasised that Russian-Serbian relations are a strategic partnership. Agricultural cooperation is also developing intensively, in particular, there is an increase in mutual trade.
Dmitry Patrushev also toured the exhibition of Russian agricultural products, which opened as part of a joint business mission. The companies presented beverages, meat, butter and confectionery, and other products. Besides, there were over 200 meetings with 58 local companies interested in buying Russian agricultural products.
On the second day, Dmitry Patrushev met with Aleksandar Vučić, President of Serbia. The Minister noted that the republic builds an equal and mutually beneficial partnership with interested countries, particularly Russia, due to its independent foreign policy course. There is an active political dialogue between Russia and Serbia, covering a wide range of international issues. At the same time, there is a good basis for further strengthening relations.
"We expect that the Agreement on a Free Trade Zone between the EAEU and Serbia, which enters into force on 10 July, will contribute to the development of cooperation," the Minister said. He pointed out that the document provides favourable conditions for the supply of various products to both countries' markets.
Dmitry Patrushev also met with Branislav Nedimovic, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Serbia. They discussed the results of joint work and prospects for agricultural cooperation expansion.
"The trade of agricultural products and foodstuffs between our countries is showing positive dynamics. Last year, it increased by approximately 7.5% to 517 million dollars despite the pandemic. There was growth both in exports and imports," Dmitry Patrushev stated.
Russia is looking forward to increasing exports to the republic. According to Dmitry Patrushev, the Serbian side has expressed interest in buying meat and dairy products from domestic producers. This issue is currently under discussion.
