The first meeting of the interdepartmental working group on the development of wool production and processing was held at the Russian Ministry of Agriculture on December 19.
The event, which was held by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Andrei Razin, was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Customs Service, heads of regional agricultural management bodies, specialized unions and organizations.
Andrey Razin noted that the sheep breeding industry has great potential for further development. Since 2000, the number of sheep has increased by 49.9% across all farms.
The priority objectives are to increase the number of highly productive animals to provide high-quality meat, wool and milk, as well as to increase the competitiveness of these products on the international market.
The state actively supports this direction. Funds are allocated for the construction of modern sheep farms, the purchase of equipment and breeding stock, as well as to support production and much more.
In addition, support is provided for Russian enterprises that produce high-quality fine and semi-fine wool per 1 ton of products produced.
The potential of the industry makes it possible to satisfy the needs of the domestic light industry sector for raw materials.
Andrey Razin emphasized the importance of pricing and quality issues, cooperation between producers and processors.
The Russian Ministry of Agriculture is interested in implementing a pilot project in regions with developed sheep farming to create unified approaches to the formation of batches of uniform quality of raw materials, conducting an independent assessment of wool and establishing long-term contractual relations between industry participants.
