Picodi analysts have calculated what share of consumer spending in different regions of the world falls on food and non-alcoholic beverages consumed at home.

In five countries, such costs account for less than a tenth of all expenditures. Among the leaders of the rating are the USA (6.7 percent), Singapore (8.4 percent), Great Britain (8.7 percent), Ireland (9.2 percent) and Switzerland (9.9 percent).

Russia is in 69th place on the list - spending on food at home accounts for almost a third (29 percent) of all spending by citizens. Below in the ranking are Belarus, India (32.1 percent each), Egypt (37.6 percent), Uzbekistan (46.5 percent) and Kazakhstan (49.4 percent). The highest share of food spending is in Nigeria (59 percent), Myanmar (56.6 percent) and Kenya (56.1 percent).

In monetary terms, the largest food spending among European countries was recorded in Switzerland ($359 per month), Norway ($341 per month) and Denmark ($311 per month). Experts explain this by the general high level of prices for goods in these countries.

In Russia, according to experts, the cost of food is 146 dollars a month. In Georgia, this amount is $116, in Azerbaijan — $102, and in Belarus — $98. At the same time, citizens of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have the lowest spending on groceries — $26 and $40, respectively.

To compile the rankings, Picodi analysts used the latest data available from Euromonitor and local statistical offices on the share of spending on food and non-alcoholic beverages consumed at home in 105 countries around the world. To calculate the amount of expenses for currency conversion, the average exchange rate according to Google Finance for July 2023 was used.
