Since the beginning of 2023, 27 foci of African swine fever have already been identified in Russia. More than half of outbreaks occur in domestic pigs.
Rosselkhoznadzor reported on the number of outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in Russia in the first half of 2023. In the message of the department, it is indicated that in total 27 outbreaks of ASF were recorded in Russia, of which 15 were among domestic pigs and 12 among wild boars.
The top most ASF-affected regions in Russia are the Krasnoyarsk Territory (6 ASF outbreaks among domestic pigs) and the Saratov Region (2 outbreaks among domestic pigs and 3 among wild ones). In the Ulyanovsk region, there were two outbreaks of ASF among domestic pigs and one among wild ones, in Astrakhan - three among wild ones. In other regions, there were less than three outbreaks. Recall that wild animals can pick up ASF through the corpses of domestic animals that have died from ASF and thrown into the wild by unscrupulous farmers.
Representatives of the department noted that in Russia the situation with ASF is controlled and more favorable than in European countries. For example, 1664 outbreaks of African swine fever were detected in Poland in the first half of the year, 670 in Italy, and 325 in Romania.
