The situation with prices for the majority of socially important goods is stable, the cost of the "borscht set" traditionally rising in price in July began to decline in August. This was stated to journalists by Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov.

"All regions reported and confirmed that, in general, as of August 14, 2023, the situation is normal for most socially significant goods. The new harvest of the fruit and vegetable group is good, so the price of the borscht set, which traditionally went up in July, began to decline in early August," - Evtukhov commented on the results of the meeting devoted to the analysis of food prices in the Russian Federation. According to him, for the second week all components of the "borscht set" become cheaper: cabbage, carrots, onions. The leader in the rate of decline is potatoes.

Referring to Rosstat data, the Deputy Minister emphasized that in the week from August 8 to 14, 2023, prices in the food segment remained almost unchanged. Moreover, there is a significant decrease in some socially important goods. A decrease in meat prices is expected in September with the end of the "barbecue season," Yevtukhov told reporters.

"Colleagues from the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as representatives of industry associations invited to the meeting, noted that, according to their calculations, a decrease in meat prices is also expected in September due to the end of the so-called barbecue season," he said. Earlier, the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev said that a slight increase in meat prices in Russia was caused by a seasonal factor, and given the increase in production, they are expected to decline at the end of August. There are no prerequisites for further growth in meat prices or its shortage. According to the minister, the situation on the Russian food market is calm, production volumes are growing. Self-sufficiency in meat and meat products in Russia at the end of 2022 exceeded 100%.
