The number of pigs at Russian pig farms increased by 1 million heads over the year. This was announced by the General Director of the National Union of Pig Breeders Yuri Kovalev, speaking at the International Exhibition of Breeding, Feed, Veterinary Medicine and Technologies for Livestock, Pigs, Poultry and Feed Production AGROS-2023.
“In 2023, we inertially expect further growth in pork production. In December last year, compared to January, the number of pigs increased by 1 million heads,” Yury Kovalev noted.
He added that the increase in livestock will contribute to the growth of pork production in the country. According to the results of the year, an increase in pork production is expected at the level of 250-300 thousand tons. Yuri Kovalev believes that these volumes can be distributed on the market subject to increased consumption and increased exports. Otherwise, manufacturers will expect tougher competition in the market and the departure of less efficient players.
