The Stavropol Territory, the Karachay-Cherkess Republic and the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic demonstrate the best indicators for self-sufficiency in meat and meat products in the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD). The regions of the district are self-sufficient in meat products by 111%, this was reported to journalists in the press service of the unified development institute of the North Caucasus Federal District JSC "Kavkaz.RF".
"Import substitution has become one of the main methods for stabilizing and developing the Russian economy; in this regard, the indicator of self-sufficiency of the regions, including in the field of agro-industrial complex, is relevant.<...> contribution to ensuring the food independence of the country. <...> The level of self-sufficiency of the North Caucasus Federal District in meat and meat products is 111.2% - the best indicators are in the Stavropol Territory, the KChR and the KBR," the report says.
In addition, the district has a high level of milk production. As noted, over the nine months of last year, this figure was 104.3%, which is 19.3% higher than the national average. The leader was the Republic of Dagestan, where in 2021 they produced 935 thousand tons of dairy products - 1/3 of the total production of the district.
According to Rosstat, the North Caucasus Federal District is traditionally a donor region in the grain market. Thus, last year the grain harvest in the Stavropol Territory amounted to 9.4 million tons, while the region needs about 2.6-3 million tons to meet its own needs. The surplus, as a rule, is distributed among domestic Russian deliveries and exported to the CIS countries and Georgia, the press service specified.
"The North Caucasus has long and almost completely provided itself with food - grain, meat, dairy products. People from all over the country come to the region for natural and environmentally friendly products. And if import substitution in the agricultural industry as such is not required, it is necessary to increase and develop production, because that there is a demand for products, especially since agro-industrial projects for the North Caucasus are a priority, and the Caucasus.RF, as a development institution, offers quite effective support measures. I think entrepreneurs should not lose this opportunity," the press service of the Deputy Minister of Economic Development quotes RF Sergey Nazarov.
Kavkaz.RF reminded about the work of the operational headquarters for business support. "Support measures are being worked out for dozens of projects worth more than 30 billion rubles. The tourism and agro-industrial sectors are among the priorities," the company added.
