As reported in the materials of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), it received an initiative proposal from the Russian Federation to provide a tariff benefit in the form of exemption from import customs duty of frozen cattle meat in the amount of not more than 100 thousand tons in the period from January 1 to December 31, 2024 .
In 2023, the quota is also 100 thousand tons.
Meat imported on preferential terms is intended for use in the production of meat products. Its intended use is confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
"The proposed measure is aimed at balancing the cattle meat market in the Russian Federation, as well as stabilizing prices for meat products," the report says.
The draft decision of the EEC, posted on the website of the commission, provides for the provision of such a quota
The Russian Federation began to provide benefits for duty-free import of beef from 2022. For that year, its volume was 200 thousand tons. For 2023, the quota was reduced to 100 thousand tons.
In the first half of 2022, there was also a duty-free import quota for 100,000 tons of pork. Subsequently, this benefit was not granted.
