The volume of mutual food trade between Russia and the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the first half of this year increased by 17%, to more than $6 billion, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Sergey Levin said on Monday.
The seventh meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the SCO countries opened in Tashkent on Monday.
"The SCO member states are key trading partners for Russia. Over the past years, the volume of mutual food trade has been growing steadily - over the first half of this year it has increased by almost 17% and exceeded $6 billion," Levin said at the meeting.
According to him, in order to further increase the volume of mutual trade, it is necessary to "continue work on opening access to our markets, lifting various restrictions, working out logistics and debugging information interaction between countries."
"The SCO platform is invariably characterized by the spirit of partnership, the spirit of developing mutually beneficial solutions and well-functioning close interaction. This forms a solid foundation for ensuring the stability of food chains, as well as effectively solving problems in the field of food security," Levin added.
